Band Etiquette

This page explains the proper etiquette for all band events including football games, marching festivals, and concerts. This is important information for all band students, marching and concert, and parents.

Concert Etiquette:
  • Please do not talk while a performing group is playing/singing
    • This is the first and greatest rule of concert etiquette
    • This includes whispering to, or disciplining your other children
  • Please turn off electronic devices
    • While most phones now have very musical ring tones, they don't always fit into our performance, nor do they provide pleasant sounds for your neighbors
  • Please do not wave to your student during the concert
    • This can be a distraction to the students, when they should be focused on their performance for you
  • Please do not take flash photography or move about with your video camera
    • Photographing and/or filming can also be a distraction to the students, when they should be focused on their performance
  • Please applaud at appropriate times
    • Some music has several sections
    • Remember, it's not over until all of the sections have been performed
    • A good rule of thumb is to watch the conductor, when his/her arms are lowered completely, it's usually the end of the composition
  • Please do not leave the auditorium during the music
    • Wait for a break in the concert to visit the restroom, unless you are caring for an upset/noisy child, in which case you may exit as quickly and quietly as possible
  • Please come to the concerts expecting the best
    • You might just be surprised how good your student sounds when joined by the other students
    • We are greater than the sum of our parts!
Marching Etiquette:
  • Students must be on time for all events
    • Tardy deadlines will be given for each event
  • Students will change into their uniforms at the school
    • Uniform bags will remain at the school
  • Students are to follow the grooming policies set forth by Mr. Werner
  • Stand Etiquette
    • Students are assigned seats and are required to stay in them for the entire game
    • Students are not allowed to eat while in uniform in the stadium seats
    • Band boosters and family typically stand while our band is performing their show on the field
    • Students, band boosters and family typically stand while the other band is performing their show on the field
    • Performance time is QUIET TIME
