08-17-14 Marching Band Trip to Las Vegas

Here are the details for next weekend’s football game against Reed High School at the Bishop Gorman H.S. Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, August 23. If you have any questions about the trip, feel free to email the Boosters or Mr. Hartgrove.

Last year, several band families made the trip and met the band in Las Vegas to watch the game and had a great time. You are more than welcome to do the same this year if you are so inclined. The more the merrier!

Cost: The cost of transportation will be covered by funds that have accrued in the band account that Mr. Hartgrove manages. The Band Boosters have voted to pay for the hotel accommodations for students and chaperons out of Band Booster funds.

Meals: Families will be responsible for the cost of their student’s meals (fast food — two lunches and one breakfast) and snacks during the trip. Saturday, there will be a lunch stop on the way. The Boosters will provide a pizza dinner in Las Vegas before the game. Sunday morning, we will have breakfast on the road, and there will be a stop for lunch on the way back to Phoenix. The group will arrive home before dinner Sunday evening. Students should bring extra money to cover additional snacks and beverages.

Chaperones: Based on the student/adult ratio required by the school district, we will have four male chaperones and four female chaperones. All of the adults have been fingerprinted and have had the necessary background checks to be cleared as volunteers by the Tempe Union High School District. 

Our chaperones will be: Mr. Hartgrove, Mr. Mitchell, Patsy Adlam, Melissa Dietz, Holly and Greg Johnson and Carol and Bill Greeney.

7:15 a.m. report to band room, load buses and truck

7:45 a.m. board buses

8:00 a.m. depart MPHS

12:00 p.m. stop for lunch en route

4:00 p.m. arrive at Palace Station, Las Vegas, check-in

5:00 p.m. pizza dinner at the hotel provided by the Boosters

6:00 p.m. arrive at Bishop Gorman stadium, warm-up for performance

7:00 p.m. kick-off football game

10:00 p.m. return to hotel

11:00 p.m. room check, lights out

9:00 a.m. Depart Las Vegas, breakfast on the road

12:30 p.m. stop for lunch en route

5:30 p.m. arrive MPHS

*Students will be responsible for providing money for three restaurant meals (fast-food type), as well as any incidentals such as snacks. Meals and snacks packed from home for the bus are also acceptable.
